Defy Your Age: Living Beyond Yourself at Any Age!

Defy Your Age: Living Beyond Yourself at Any Age!

Isn’t that a line from a Loreal commercial about women’s skin? I am not talking about wrinkles here.  I am speaking about living beyond yourself.  I notice as we age that we all make statements about ourselves that are self-limiting.

Well, I just can’t do that anymore cause I’m getting too old.  Or you know your not as young as you used to be.  We start to limit our possibilities and give into getting older.

Aging, pot bellies, declining energy, gray hair are inevitable but the quality of life we decide.  We choose and it all starts with what you think first!  Trust me I feel the effects in my body as I am 47.  I am not as flexible as I used to be, but in many ways I am better because I have chosen for myself to make that happen!

I previously worked for an assisted living and saw folks at the end of their lives in their 80′s & 90′s.  Some were full of major health issues, like obesity, diabetes, arthritis etc.  Others were full of life and vitality.  Their strong mental outlook and physical activity level has kept them youthful.

If your start slowing down in your mid-life what is the quality of life going to be like for you in your 50′s, 60′s on up to 90′s? My office was right in front and I saw the ambulance come many times and roll the stretcher right on by with someone whose heart or blood sugar or some body part had coded.  I found this disturbing as it happened frequently.  It was sort of a “Scared Straight” for aging for me!  I started to seriously think about the quality of life I was choosing for myself as I age.

Everytime I indulge in too much sugar am I choosing diabetes later in life?  Everytime I am lazy am I choosing obesity later on?

I marvel at people who defy their age.  My aunt started running marathons when she was in her 60′s.  My uncle bought her a gym pass and she didn’t like the gym much so she decided to run outside a little!! People who defy their age are no different than the rest of the population except for the fact that they chose this for themselves!

As human beings we were created for dynamic change our whole lives.  Your never too old to do anything in life.  I heard of someone who launched their acting career in their 80′s.  We get stuck, we stagnate like a pool of water where it all sits still.  What happens it starts to smell and turns green. Yuk!

Thats why its time to break out of something, perhaps a career that has grown dead, a bad relationship or just a negative habit like overeating! Push past your age in some small way. Just start by setting goals for yourself!!

Life coaching principle #1 is that you have to give up something to get something in life.  The things we love so dear that are not good for us hold us back from having something better.  When we hold onto our limiting beliefs they hold onto us.  Push past your age barrier today and live a fuller, longer, richer life!!
