Has the Recession Got You Down? How to Pull Out of It!

Has the Recession Got You Down? How to Pull Out of It!

Lost your business, lost your job, lost income- its the same old story everywhere, isn’t it.  How does one thrive in the midst of a recession? I met a lady who had been out of work for 2 years and sent out over 500 resumes.

If you haven’t figured it out already what used to work doesn’t in a recession.  What she didn’t consider is leaving her computer to do all networking for her job search, volunteering and part-time work.

People here are even doing commercials on TV, billboards and sandwich boards for folks to hire them!  I even heard of one man who dressed like a chicken for his job interview.  Bet he was remembered!  Times are tough but you can become tougher!!

Maybe your business is still going, but rather slow.  Ever consider leaving work early to volunteer in the community.  The relationships you create may get you more business.

So the name of the game in beating this recession all boils down to how we think about it. Once, I found myself in a job that just didn’t match my abilities and was very high pressure.  I began to look for another job right when everybody started laying off and downsizing.

Everyone told me that you can’t possibly find a job right now. Well great, but  mine had stress so bad it was impacting my well being.

I did manage to get about 4 interviews and everyone was amazed.  Because I chose not to be defined by my circumstances and let a recession stop my goals.  I got the interviews through unique ways.  I did lots of cold-calling, walking into every place I could that wasn’t advertising to drop off a resume.

I also approached one company about 7 times.  I called twice, emailed twice, even faxed my resume and then stopped by twice.  The name of the game is don’t ever give up!! Get your name before them as many times as possible!

I also turned off my TV, while everybody was worrying about losing their jobs and talking negative I got busy applying for jobs and I didn’t listen to all  the recession talk.  You create your own atmosphere and it doesn’t work to listen to limitations of why you can’t do that right now.

So the question becomes what are you pulling yourself toward. If you listen to recession talk your looming anxiety and creating more of it on your own horizon.  The recession is the best time to sell a new product, drum up some different business.

Sales low in one area, try selling something else.  If you keep doing what your doing and not getting anywhere you might as well beat your head against the wall.

You create your business and you drive the sales.  Remember marketing is a hype.  Buy one, get one free.  The second one is half-off.  Create a hype that makes people still want to buy even in a recession.

Have events that drive sales through your door such as open houses, raffles, chair massages… Things people can’t resist.  Dinners boxed to go for busy people on the run.

So now I am giving away all my great ideas.  Remember to pull away from the recession talk and pull toward the future you want to create powerfully!  Consider a session with a business coach to make it happen!!
